Goa Gajah Tample
Goa Gajah Tample
Goa Gajah or Goa Ganesha is located about 6 km from Ubud. Inside the cave there is an image of Ganesha (the fat-bellied elephant-headed son of God Shiva) as a symbol of sci-ence and knowledge. Near the cave there is also a temple called Pura Goa Gajah which ac-cording to the local belief was built between the 9th and 11th century. The entrance to this cave is embellished with a carved work in the shape of a mountain. The right side of the cave mouth is engraved with eye-shaped carvings and the left side of it is embellished with writings from the 11th century (believed to have come from the Kediri kingdom in East Java). In the middle of the field outside the cave there is a pool with holy water used for Hindu ceremony. The pool is decorated with several statues.
